From Our Children's Minister

Fall is here! Like the changing of the leaves, our children’s department is changing and growing. We have had many new faces and families visiting and becoming a part of our family here at Royston Baptist. If you haven’t noticed, we seem to be in a baby boom, so we have needed to purchase a new crib and we are thinking we may need more. Donations are always welcome to help with these new purchases!

New curriculum for fall is also present in the children’s department. We are excited to be using “The Gospel Project” in all our Sunday school classrooms now. “The Gospel Project” is a three year chronological study of the Bible from beginning to end. Thanks to generous donations, we were able to install TV’s and DVD players in our classrooms for the video portion of the study. The kids love the videos! We invite parents to get to know what their children are learning by bringing “the Gospel Project” to their dinner table conversation, before bedtime discussions, or anytime. There are parent resources available on the website www.gospelproject.com or see your child’s/children’s Sunday school teacher for more information.

Wednesday nights are also new and hopping! We are as proud of our mission based projects and curriculum as we are of the kids participating! Our Mission Friends, led by two wonderful ladies, along with our CIA’s (Children in Action) have taken virtual trips to San Diego and Cambodia so far and they are just getting started! CIA’s have teamed up with the youth for a once a month backyard bible study with the kids at the Royston Housing Authority’s after-school program. Our Wednesday night kids have collected cans for the Rainbow Pantry and are now collecting coats for the homeless shelter and DVD’s for Hart Haven Women’s shelter! There are bins in the Children’s hall if you have donations of coats or DVD’s.

The Children have also teamed up with the youth to work on a wonderful Christmas musical. Practice for the Christmas musical is going well thanks to all the support we have from volunteers and parents. We will be presenting the musical to the church this December. All our church family and friends are invited to attend. You will be blessed! It is an amazing time to be at Royston Baptist Church, but don’t take my word for it! I encourage you to take a stroll through the Children’s hall anytime and see for yourself!

Thank you for all your support!

This summer was pretty amazing! It came and went too quickly. My first Vacation Bible School here at RBC was wonderful. We had such a great time with so many incredible kids. We are so blessed to have so many adults willing to volunteer their time to pour into these kids’ lives. I was honored to be able to work with such a staff and to be able to continue to work with them each Sunday and Wednesday. I think that the dedication we have here at RBC in our children’s department is a rare blessing!

We had two boys from our children’s department who we were able to send to Student Life Camp this year because of the generosity of this congregation. This is an experience they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Ask either of these boys about their experience. Ask their fearless leader. I think he gained as much as they did!

As the summer continued, we saw a different group of kids with CSP’s Jammin Jubilee. We were able to bless so many families with this camp. Royston Baptist Church sees a need in this community for more opportunities for families raising children with special needs and we are working hard to meet that need! What an honor to be a part of Jammin Jubilee for the fourth year in a row! Thank you for allowing CSP to partner with you on this very worth while project.

So now that the summer has come to an end for 2015 and the kids are back in school and back to family routines, the staff in the Children’s Department are gearing up for a fall season just as exciting as the summer! I hope you will stay tuned to what God is doing in the lives of our kids and staff. Please continue to offer support and prayer throughout the year. Pray for our teachers, volunteers, new students from Emmanuel, kids and parents.

Thank you!

Wow!! What an awesome week of Vacation Bible School we had! We are so blessed to have so many willing to give of their time to make an event like this successful! I would really like to thank all those involved. You all made my job so easy. I believe some of us adults enjoyed it as much as the kids. We were able to serve 70 plus kids this past week. I know that God will continue to grow those seeds that were planted this week. I really hope to see some of those kids back with us for Sunday school and Wednesday night programs.

So with VBS behind us for another year, I am excited about what our kids will be doing next. Just a heads up, Levi and Josiah are getting ready for camp. They are really excited about camp! They came up with a great fundraising idea. The two of them are working on memorizing 10 verses, and they will be looking for people willing to help them reach their goal of $300 for camp by giving per verse memorized. Be ready when they come to you with their pledge sheet. I am excited for them. I know they will do a great job. I am very proud of them!

I am also excited about what’s coming this fall. I am forming a great team and we are working on a new mission based pro-gram for Wednesday nights. I hope to give our kids a better understanding of what missionaries do and how we can help. Also, I want to help them become missionaries right here in our own backyard! We hope to add energy and excitement to the program and have fun while learning!

Can you tell I am very passionate about our kids? Please pray with me for our community, our church, our own kids, and those we plan to reach. God has blessed us so we can be a blessing to others. God is good!

I am really enjoying the busyness of my life right now. I love talking to people
and meeting new people. I even like that at the end of the day I am exhausted.
But it’s a good exhausted. I have a purpose and it drives me to work hard.

I also know that without time for myself, time to renew my mind and body, work tends to wear me down. Stress creeps up my back and neck and I am one grumpy mama!

Sometime ago, I’m thinking around the time I was homeschooling three of our girls, My Heavenly Father gave me a vision. Isn’t it awesome how God always knows just what we
need? Imagine three pre-teen girls at home pretty much 24/7, then add a screaming infant to the mix. I loved having my girl’s home and I loved my sweet baby boy, but don’t ask me to go back and do it again! I just needed a place I could visit in my mind when I needed peace, peace in His presence. Peace had to be an escape in my mind because there was no other place to escape! Not even the bathroom was sacred!

Imagine a place where the sun warms you completely and just makes you feel happy. Imagine soft, cool, green grass under your bare feet and a clear babbling stream nearby.
Then picture yourself 5 years old again dressed in white linen, running to meet your Heavenly Father. He lifts you up into His arms and you both laugh. You lay your head on His shoulder
without a care in the world and just sigh, and rest. Just rest and enjoy peace in His presence!

I imagine heaven being somewhat like this, except in heaven, it won’t be a place I have to escape to in order to find peace, I will walk in it daily!

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus," Philippians 4:7

From Our Children's Minister

Did you know there are over 30 million school-aged children with special needs? Unfortunately, less than 1% of churches offer services or programs that minister to these children. Families raising children with special needs are con-sidered one of the most unreached people groups. 13% of all school-aged children receive special needs services. For this reason, Royston Baptist Church has the privilege and honor of implementing The Champions Club!

The Champions Club is tailor-made for all special needs children, ranging from children with autism to visually impaired children. Our goal is to assist each child to have a greater understanding of who God is and what He has done for us. This curriculum will take each child on a pathway of learning development, as they advance through different milestones. This curriculum is biblically based. Our goal is to help your child grow in positive relationships with God and others.

The Champions Club Curriculum was chosen specifically with your child in mind. We believe all children, regardless of their physical/mental abilities, are gifts from God. We also believe every child can learn, regardless of their abilities.

Champion’s Club will begin Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 10am at Royston Baptist Church in the Children’s Department. Champion’s Club is designed to allow parents/caregivers the time to enjoy Sunday school and the 11 AM Worship Service. For first time families, we ask you to call in order for us to prepare properly for your child.

Our desire is to provide a fun and safe environment where kids grow in their knowledge of God and offer families hope and love found only in God.

If you, or someone you know, has a child with special needs please contact Teresa Phillips, children’s minister at RBC. (706) 436-6756, or email cspnega@gmail.com.
