Last week we finally got some rain. I rushed to put my potted plants outside knowing I had neglected them and they could use a good rain soaking. After I got the plants into the yard, I took a moment to sit in the rocking chair and stare out at the brown tinted grass as the yard soaked up the rain shower. I took a moment to thank God for the rain.
As I prayed and pondered my mind drifted from drought to rain to provision to needs in our church to God’s heart and to God’s desire to overflow our dry and weary souls with what we need the most. I prayed for members of our congregation to get the rest they needed. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed for members to get the healing they desired. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed for members to get the company they were craving. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed for members to get peace in the midst of uncertainty. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed for long awaited vacations and respite coming this summer, that members would get much needed quality time with family and a chance to relax. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed for our staff with our upcoming staff retreat, that we would plan well and enjoy our time together. God bring the rain down on them. I prayed that the rain would quench the ground and that God would send the rain onto the hearts of those that were bitter, tired, parched, angry, hurt, and wounded. God bring the rain down on them.
I realized one last thing as I rose from the rocking chair; sometimes you have to move yourself into the rain. So this summer, one of my prayers for you is you will walk into the rain showers God provides. Read the Word of God and let it soak in, join a bible study and let it soak in, commit to praying with your spouse and let it soak in, memorize scripture with your children and let it soak in, commit to tithing of your time and money and let it soak in, and make it a point to be in church to let the rain showers soak in. These are the places where rain showers from God fall frequently. Is your soul in need of a little rain like my potted plants? Make sure you get it outside when the rain starts to fall.
